The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is responsible for certifying victims of human trafficking once they are identified. This certification allows victims to receive Federally funded benefits and services to the same extent as refugees. HHS also raises awareness of human trafficking through its campaign. This is a help for many victims because most of them will not come up to the world and talk or get help to prevent this from happeneing. They fear for their families and/or loved ones; feel threatened that traffickers will harm their families if they report their situation to, or cooperate with, law enforcement. There are many organizations to help those in need for those going through the trafficking process, because everyone can speak up for themselves and the that the fear they have that something will happen to their families but what they fail to realize is that is only the fear and that the threat is always a threat many people won't really do anything if you make the right actions and the right decisions. There's always someone who can help you face the reality and live without the fear of thinking something might happen to you.
Human trafficking is a global crisis linked with increasing globalization and often intertwined with illegal immigration, human smuggling and transnational crime. It is a form of modern day slavery that trades and exploits children, women and men each year, violating their basic rights to life, liberty and security. While you cannot equate prostitution and sex trafficking, there is definitely a link, particularly found in those who have been arrested. And, while there is a very small—but very vocal—minority of men and women who willingly choose prostitution as a lifestyle, the demand for commercial sex far outweighs the willing supply, a disparity that will necessitate the unwilling supply to meet the demand. Very few studies have calculated what percentage of people arrested for prostitution were willing to go into prostitution and and the ones forced into. There's a difference.
